MTN Foundation: How Accountant, Others Allegedly Stole N4.7m Meant For HIV Victims

Lagos – A prosecution witness, Abasiekong Udobang on Thursday told a Lagos High Court how a chartered accountant and two other staff of Hope Worldwide Foundation stole the sum of N4.7 million meant for the treatment of people living with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and the less-privileged in the society.
The first witness in the alleged fraud trial, Udobang who works with MTN Nigeria Limited as a Project Manager, informed the court that MTN Foundation is a subsidiary of MTN Nigeria established with the purpose of giving back to the society through corporate social responsibility programmes (CSR) and this involves opening of dialysis centres and other medical supports.
The defendants, Owolabi Kayode Samuel, Esther Olubukola Mate, Abinbola David, Cumulative Ventures Limited, Continental Best Buy Limited and others at large are standing trial on three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing, a charge preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Led in evidence by EFCC counsel, K.M.A Olushesi, the witness told the court how the defendants who were all representing Hope Worldwide Nigeria, a non-governmental organisation defrauded MTN Nigeria.
According to him, MTN in 2005 engaged Hope Worldwide in order to implement two of their medical support programmes, ‘Partners Against Malaria and Aids (PAMAC) and children and the orphaned in the community.
“MTN usually gives funds to Hope Worldwide Nigeria since they are non-governmental organisations on quarterly basis and those funds were usually retired to MTN Foundation as a proof that the work was done.
“Every year we usually work towards a new agenda until 2012 when we became suspicious of some of their retirements”.
The witness further said that the case was reported to the Business Risk Units of MTN (BRU) who investigated the matter and it was discovered that there was misappropriation of funds.
“It was also discovered that documents were added in the names of two companies whom we don’t have any dealings with.
After the findings from the BRU, the matter was reported to EFCC for further investigation”, he said.
While being crossed-examined by the defence Counsel, Mr. J. O Odubela (SAN), he confirmed that the money meant for the treatment of the AIDS victims was usually paid to Hope Worldwide quarterly.
He also disclosed that after the fraud was discovered, members from the NGO were invited for a meeting to tell them the findings of BRU and a letter was written to them to inform them of the itemised fraud, and the contract was thereafter terminated.
Abasiekong, who insisted a letter itemised the area where they suspected the alleged fraud but he however could not present the letter written to Hope Worldwide in court.
The trial Judge, Justice Hakeem Oshodi however adjourned the matter till June 26 for continuation of trial.

Khloe Kardashian is reportedly "living in hell" amid Tristan Thompson cheating scandal

Khloe Kardashian feels like she's "in hell" after her seemingly perfect relationship went up in flames three weeks ago, when photos and videos emerged showing the NBA player getting intimate with other women.
A source tells E! that Khloe "feels like she is living in her own personal hell" after she found out about the cheating.
Khloé is taking it one day at a time with Tristan. She is glad he is helping her out with True, but she has also been spending a lot of alone time reflecting.
They don't speak much about the situation, and Khloé feels like she is living in her own personal hell. The only thing keeping her happy right now is True and the support from her family.
Everyone is ready for her to come home and thinks it will give her more peace. Tristan has desperately been trying to keep Khloé happy and make their relationship work, but she thinks it's too far done.

Another insider says there is "tension" between Khloe's family and Tristan.
They think Khloe is making the wrong decision and aren't happy. But leaving is easier said than done. They are trying to be supportive no matter what, but they are a bit disappointed.
They don't think Tristan will change his ways and think that Khloe will be hurt again and again.

Khloe is still in Cleveland though her family want her to return to L.A. She plans to stay in Cleveland for a bit, the insider revealed.
The more time passes, the more comfortable she gets. Her original plan to take True back to L.A. is off the table—for now.

No one in Khloe's family is speaking to Tristan, the source adds. They want Khloe to "start the chapter over with True," and Kourtney is advising Khloé on co-parenting. The source adds that Kourtney Kardashian "is more understanding," and she counselled Khloe on how to "make this work by separating from Tristan and co-parenting. Khloe listens to Kourtney the most and she confides in her daily." Kris Jenner "thinks it's time for her to come home and start the chapter over with True. They all are going to support whatever Khloe decides but have lost all respect for Tristan."
Kim Kardashian is her only family member to speak publicly about the situation between Khloe and Tristan.
Kim told Ellen DeGeneres on Monday: "I don't even know how to describe it. It's so f--ked up."
She adds: "I feel like Khloe always dives into relationships and puts her whole heart into everything. I mean, she moved there, and I've seen her be in a really tough situation before in her last relationship [with Lamar Odom]."
Kim said she treated Tristan "like family" and was "rooting" for the couple. "She's so strong—she's doing the best that she can. It's a really sad situation all over."

Kim Kardashian interviews Kylie Jenner about Insecurities, Motherhood & the Problem with Fame

Kylie Jenner is the latest cover star for  ES Magazine's latest issue, on newsstands May 3, and the 20-year old new mum was interviewed by Kim Kardashian for the issue.

Read excerpts below.
On why she chose the name Stormi for her daughter: “I really don’t know how we thought of Storm. [Travis Scott] insisted it was him, but I feel like it was me. And that kind of just stuck with us. And then I didn’t really like just Storm — I didn’t feel like that was her name. So then it became Stormi. And it just stuck. I feel like there were a lot of other names that I might have even liked better to be honest, but I feel like Stormi picked her own name, like it was just her name.”
On the early stages of motherhood: “It’s actually been the opposite for me. I feel like it’s just been so amazing, and so much fun. I’m learning so much more about myself and life, and it’s been such a great experience. Of course there’s hard times and stuff… even in the beginning, just not sleeping, the nights, like, baby blues… and all the ups and downs. And also even when I’m here it was so hard to leave this morning. I’m like, ‘I’ll be right back, I’m so sorry, I have to leave!’ and she doesn’t even know what’s going on. I think about her all the time, anywhere I am. I would rather be with her or wish she can come everywhere. I can’t wait till she can come everywhere with me, because right when she’s old enough I’ll bring her everywhere.”
On her thoughts about plastic surgery: “I feel like if it makes you feel better, and if that’s what you want to do, I’m not against it. Right now I probably wouldn’t do anything, actually.”

The full interview appears in this week’s issue of ES Magazine, Thursday May 3rd.
